Apprenticeship Campaign

Why do we need an apprenticeship campaign?

The numbers of young people applying for construction apprenticeships is now outstripping demand. It is vital that we continue to meet young people's expectations of the construction industry so we do not suffer recruitment problems in the future, and we need the support of employers in order to do this.

Taking on an apprentice can be a big commitment, especially for smaller employers. But it can also bring many benefits, such as ready-trained workers for a company in the future.

How does the apprenticeship campaign address the challenge?

CITB-ConstructionSkills works with employers to supply high quality apprentices through its Managing Agency business area and its Area Office network. Using this route to source an apprentice means employers don't have to spend loads of time interviewing applicants, and both the employer and the apprentice also get ongoing support for the duration of the training.

To complement this ongoing work, CITB-ConstructionSkills has produced an employer newsletter, packed full of news and information about construction apprenticeships. This was issued at the end of January to employers who have previously taken on an apprentice.

The main stories in this year's newsletter are:

  • How the quality of recruits is improving
  • What grant is available to employers committing to an apprentice
  • How training for the future delivers benefits now
  • The benefits of recruiting female apprentices
  • Benefits of CITB-ConstructionSkills' Managing Agency

Plus loads of examples of employer best-practice and award-winning apprentices

How can I get involved?

The good news for employers is that CITB-ConstructionSkills has thousands of eager young applicants on its books across the UK. But it is important to contact us early in the year with vacancies because the best apprentices go fast. Last minute requests for apprentices can often not be fulfilled.
