£140 Million Grant Available from August

CITB-ConstructionSkills registered members in England, Scotland and Wales will have access to a record £140 million in CITB-ConstructionSkills Grants in the 2007/2008 Grants Scheme year…

This compares with £113 million distributed in training grants in the 2006 financial year, which saw over 20,000 companies benefit.

A booklet summarising this year’s Grants has been mailed to all construction employers registered with CITB-ConstructionSkills, along with information on the benefits of training and the types of support on offer.

CITB-ConstructionSkills Grant supports a wide variety of training within the industry, covering key initiatives such as qualifying existing workers, improving health and safety, and training new recruits.

The increase in Grant funds available follows extensive industry consultation which identified key areas where Grant is most needed and where the Scheme could be simplified to make it more accessible to employers. For example, registered employers can now request a report of their Grant transactions online at

Head of Finance at ConstructionSkills, Douglas Matthew, urged employers to take advantage early to avoid missing out, he said;

“With demand for construction soaring and a huge range of projects underway throughout the UK, training has never been more vital. It’s also not just for the big firms – recent figures have shown that not investing in training could cost smaller businesses £1,700 per year through materials errors, skills shortages and on-site accidents – so investing in training can help boost the bottom line.”

“With our Company Development Advisers based across England, Scotland and Wales and £140 million in grant support available, there’s never been a better time to consider your firm’s training needs and to make the most of the support on offer. It’s good for the reputation of your business and it’s good for industry as a whole.”

CITB-ConstructionSkills Grants are available to employers who are in scope to, and registered with CITB-ConstructionSkills at the time of training.
