bconstructive website shortlisted in National e-Government Awards

www.bconstructive.co.uk, the website run by ConstructionSkills to highlight careers in construction to young people, is a finalist in the e-Government National Awards 2005.

The awards showcase the best online services that improve customer’s interaction with councils, central government and other public and sector organisations.

bconstructive was selected for its innovation in allowing young people to apply for apprenticeships and scholarships online. Users can also interact with ‘smart agent’ technology - which allows young people interested in a career in construction to use a virtual careers advisor - to help them discuss their construction career options.

Nicola Thompson, CITB-ConstructionSkills Acting Communications & Marketing Director is thrilled with the news. She said: “bconstructive has come a long way since its inception. We continually try to push innovation and technology to deliver the best careers advice to young people interested in finding out more about working in construction.

“It can be very daunting as a young person to find the right career path, and with so many options in the construction industry from carpentry to surveying, it’s important that our site is as engaging and accessible as possible. We’re really pleased that our attempts to get this right are now being officially recognised.”

Cabinet Office Minister Jim Murphy MP and Ian Watmore, Government CIO and Head of the Cabinet Office e-Government Unit will be presenting the awards on 25 January 2006 at the Savoy Hotel in London.

Murphy says: "e-Government is one of the most important ways the Government can deliver public services reform. We are committed to developing Government IT systems and services that make real and tangible improvements to the lives of British people and businesses. The e-Government National Awards are our way to recognise the best attempts to deliver on this commitment."
