National Construction College leads the way for Roofing

National Construction College (NCC) Scotland’s dynamic demonstration of Roofing, Sheeting and Cladding at the recent International Roofing Federation (IFD) Young Roofer World Championships in Poland, has led to the introduction of this skills set as a new category at the competition.

Two NCC Scotland apprentices and former Skillbuild winners, Lee Mallin and Alan Fullton, successfully demonstrated Roofing, Sheeting and Cladding at this year’s internationally acclaimed annual competition, which aims to identify and promote the future champions of this sector within the construction industry.

Instructor at NCC Scotland, John Lindsay, said: “This is an important category for the roofing trade and previously it has not been included in this international competition.

“We are extremely pleased to have been given this opportunity by the National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC), who invited us to participate in this world renowned event, it’s testament to the hard work of both our students and instructors that they were chosen to demonstrate this category at an international competition.”

The IFD Young Roofer World Championships provides Britain’s young roofers with the opportunity to compete against the best in the world and helps identify the future stars of the industry.

This news follows in the wake of NCC Scotland’s sixth successive year at winning the Roofing, Sheeting and Cladding category at this year’s national Skillbuild competition, which was held in October. Gordon Byrne and Richard Rae won the gold medal for their outstanding efforts in this team category, which tested their skill accuracy and practical knowledge in this field.

As the direct training division of ConstructionSkills, formerly known as CITB-ConstructionSkills, the National Construction College is the largest provider of construction training in Europe, offering both young apprentices and adult students a wide range of specialist courses.  The college has five sites across the country, which, along with 60 other locations, provides training for more than 35,000 people per year.
