Invest in the future and increase the quality of graduate recruits in construction

Inspire Scholarships is the construction industry’s leading scholarship scheme, bringing the brightest and best graduates into the industry. By sponsoring a scholar, you can help support a student through university and provide them with a work placement that will enrich their studies and equip them for the world of work. In return, you will be investing in an invaluable asset for your business, and helping develop a work-ready candidate. Scholarships are jointly sponsored by ConstructionSkills, who also market the scheme.

There are 200-250 places available for 2007.

Who is eligible?

Any employer who is engaged in construction related activities including construction companies, consultants, architects, local authorities and many more.

Students must be:

  • Applying for their first full time degree course in any construction related discipline.
  • Predicted at least BBC or equivalent at A Level (not including General Studies).
  • A UK citizen.
  • Available for a 10 weeks work experience between the first and second year at university.

How does the programme work?

The Inspire Scholarships Programme aims to provide a short-cut to the best graduate talent available. Students apply for the scheme online where they fill in standard details as well as answering extended questions about their career plans and why they have chosen a construction related discipline.

Only the best applicants will be offered Inspire Scholarships. We match the data they supply online with criteria supplied by individual employers. Setting accurate criteria is essential and the Inspire Team is on hand to advice upon this process.

Application forms are then forwarded to employers who decide who to interview and ultimately who to sponsor. This continues until the employer is satisfied that they have the most appropriate candidate for their business. Once a scholar has been chosen, the employer decides how much to sponsor them. This is between £750 and £1500 per year matched by ConstructionSkills so that the student receives between £1500 and £3000 per year. A contract is signed between the employer and ConstructionSkills to this effect.

The employer and student sign a letter of agreement which contains the entire conditions/expectations individual to the employer. Employers provide a 10 week work placement between first and second year of university, this may be increased by mutual agreement with the student. The employer invoices ConstructionSkills annually for the matched amount.
