Our progress in the North East

The delivery of a Sector Skills Agreement for Construction in the North East depends on the full participation of all stakeholders, employers, employer organisations, trades unions, education and training providers and all major planning and funding agencies.

The North East Construction Skills Forum brings together a wide range of strategic partners that include One North East, the Learning and Skills Council, ConstructionSkills, Jobcentre Plus, Government Office North East, Business Link, the TUC, Constructing Excellence, SummitSkills and AssetSkills.

Drawing on this broad base of local knowledge and expertise, the Forum has provided the focal point for the development of the regional Sector Skills Agreement for Construction.

During 2006, in line with partners developments, the Forum has reviewed its structure to provide greater regional focus. Two new subgroups have also been established:

• A Higher Education Built Environment Group

• A regional construction Centre of Vocational Excellence (CoVE) Network comprising the five construction CoVEs working in partnership with other relevant providers to ensure that the education and training provision needs of industry are being met.

The North East SSA for Construction was signed in July 2005. The collaborative actions in the SSA are monitored against key targets and are under regular review to ensure they keep pace with an ever-changing construction industry and its ever-changing skills demands.
