Research
  • Over the past two years ConstructionSkills carried out comprehensive evidence-base research designed to inform and support the development of the Build to Last Strategic Plan and so ConstructionSkills can effectively channel its efforts to help the construction industry make its full contribution to sustainable development.
  • The programme of research had three major objectives:
  • To provide the evidence base to demonstrate what the industry skills needs are and whether or not current education and training provision, learning and qualification frameworks across the UK are satisfactorily meeting them.
  • To establish a business case for the adoption of sustainable techniques by organisations across the construction sector.
  • To identify the most significant actions that clients/investors, designers and contractors can take to ensure that their operations are sustainable.
  • The research has been achieved through both primary and secondary research, involving a desk-based assessment, face-to-face interviews, telephone surveys and stakeholder workshops. The research programme focused around four key projects:
  • Build to Last – a strategic assessment of the market conditions required to create the conditions for change
